The Lives of Others

In 1984 East Berlin, Stasi officer Gerd Wiesler is assigned to monitor playwright Georg Dreyman and actress Christa-Maria Sieland from an apartment wired for surveillance. The operation begins as an investigation into Dreyman’s political loyalty, but constant access to the couple’s private conversations gradually challenges Wiesler’s faith in the system he serves. When his superior also shows an interest in Christa-Maria, Wiesler must decide how far he will follow orders.
