Rurouni Kenshin Part I: Origins

In 1868, as Japan enters the Meiji period after the Bakumatsu war, former assassin Kenshin Himura has abandoned killing and travels from place to place with an inverted sword. He offers his skills to people who need protection, but his past as a samurai trained for violence remains at odds with the life he has chosen. Kenshin’s journey brings him to Kaoru Kamiya and her swordsmanship dojo, where his vow not to kill is put against the dangers surrounding them.
