The Last Samurai
In 1870s Japan, American military officer Nathan Algren is hired to train the emperor’s new army in modern warfare. When the government begins moving against the samurai while opening the country to Western trade, Algren finds himself caught in a conflict between modernization and an older warrior order. As he comes to respect the samurai’s principles, he must decide whether to carry out his assignment or fight for their right to survive.
