When filmmaker Salvatore Di Vita hears that Alfredo, the projectionist from his childhood, has died, memories take him back to the Sicilian village where he grew up. As a boy, Salvatore spends much of his time at the local Cinema Paradiso, watching films from the projection booth and learning about the world from Alfredo. Their friendship deepens while the theater becomes the center of his young life, including his first love.
