The Last Duel

In medieval Normandy, knight Sir Jean de Carrouges returns from war to learn that his wife, Marguerite, accuses his former friend Jacques Le Gris of rape. Le Gris denies the charge, and Marguerite’s claim becomes a matter of honor and law in a society where a woman’s testimony is heavily challenged. Unable to secure a clear judgment, Jean appeals to King Charles VI, who orders the two men to settle the dispute in a trial by combat.
