The Handmaiden
In 1930s Korea under Japanese occupation, Sook-hee, a young pickpocket, takes a position as maid to the secluded heiress Lady Hideko. She has been recruited by Count Fujiwara, a swindler posing as a nobleman who plans to win Hideko’s trust, marry her and claim her fortune. Living together on the country estate controlled by Hideko’s domineering Uncle Kouzuki, the two women become increasingly close, complicating the scheme Sook-hee was brought there to help carry out.
