The Lover
In 1920s Saigon, a poor French teenager begins a secret affair with a wealthy Chinese heir after the two are drawn to each other. Their meetings take place away from public view, since the relationship crosses the social and cultural boundaries surrounding them. As the affair continues, the young girl discovers that being with him gives her an unusual measure of control over her own life, even while their different backgrounds keep the relationship under pressure.
