The Danish Girl
In 1920s Copenhagen, painter Gerda Wegener asks her husband Einar to pose in women’s clothing when she needs a female model for her work. The experience leads Einar to recognize Lili, the woman he feels himself to be, and he begins presenting himself under this identity. As Lili’s decision changes their marriage and public lives, Gerda remains close to her while she seeks a way to live openly and pursue gender-affirming surgery, an option not yet established in medicine.
