Stuart: A Life Backwards

Alexander Masters is a reclusive writer and illustrator who meets Stuart Shorter, a homeless man from Cambridge, while campaigning to free two charity workers from prison. As their friendship develops, Alexander tries to understand Stuart’s turbulent life, including his experiences of abuse, alcoholism, crime and imprisonment. The story moves backwards through Stuart’s adult years, tracing how his life led him to the streets and shaped the difficult person Alexander comes to know.
