Palm Trees in the Snow
In 2003, Clarence lives in the snowy mountains of Huesca when an old family letter reveals a connection to Fernando Poo, the island where her father Jacobo and uncle Kilian spent much of their youth. She travels to Equatorial Guinea to learn what happened to her family there and begins piecing together their years on a cocoa plantation in the 1950s. The story also follows Kilian’s forbidden love with Bisila as colonial rule and the approaching independence of Spanish Guinea place the family under growing strain.
