News of the World
After the Civil War, Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd, a Texas veteran, travels from town to town reading newspapers aloud for local audiences. His routine changes when he meets ten-year-old Johanna Leonberger, who has been rescued from Native American captivity. Kidd agrees to escort the orphan hundreds of miles to relatives she has never known, but the journey across the unsettled West brings them up against harsh conditions and people prepared to use violence.
