In Victorian London, Scotland Yard inspector Fred Abberline investigates a series of brutal murders targeting local prostitutes. He relies on opium to heighten his unusual gift for seeing possible clues, but the case becomes personal when he grows close to Mary Kelly, one of the women at risk. As Abberline and his colleague Peter Godley follow the killer’s trail, their search leads toward a disturbing question about Jack the Ripper’s identity.
