Widower and single father Martin Bohm struggles to communicate with his 11-year-old son Jake, an autistic boy who does not speak and keeps apart from others. After Jake’s repeated escapes from school bring social worker Clea Hopkins into their lives, Martin risks losing custody of him. A meeting with Professor Arthur Teller reveals that Jake’s obsession with numbers may be connected to an unusual ability to recognize patterns linking seemingly unrelated events.
