In 1996 Lincolnshire, teenager Rae Earl returns home after four months in a psychiatric hospital following a suicide attempt. Her best friend Chloe and their circle believe Rae has been in France, so she has to rejoin their lives without revealing where she has really been or how difficult her mental health and body image issues remain. As Rae spends more time with the group, she tries to manage the pressure of fitting in, her private struggles and her growing feelings for Finn Nelson.
