In a small Texas town, popular teenager Kate Wallis disappears during the summer of 1993. At the same time, Jeanette Turner, once an awkward outsider, begins moving into Kate’s social circle and eventually takes her place among the town’s most admired students. The story follows the events across the summers of 1993, 1994 and 1995, as Jeanette’s sudden rise is overshadowed by accusations that connect her to Kate’s disappearance and turn public opinion against her.
