Catch-22

In 1944, U.S. Air Force bombardier John Yossarian is stationed with his squadron on Pianosa, an island off the Italian coast. He wants to survive the war and return home, but the number of missions required for discharge keeps rising as Colonel Cathcart pursues promotion. Yossarian considers declaring himself insane to avoid further flights, only to face Catch-22: anyone who asks to be excused from combat on those grounds is considered rational enough to remain on duty.
