The Rum Diary
In the late 1950s, journalist Paul Kemp leaves New York for San Juan, where he takes a job at a struggling English-language newspaper. Rum, a chaotic newsroom and the island’s restless expatriate crowd pull him into the orbit of Chenault, the fiancée of property developer Sanderson. When Kemp learns more about Sanderson’s questionable plans, his work begins to put him in conflict with the interests shaping Puerto Rico’s future, forcing him to choose between drifting along and reporting what he sees.
