Return of the Hero
France, 1809. Captain Charles-Grégoire Neuville is sent to the Napoleonic Wars just as he is preparing to marry Elisabeth Beaugrand’s sister, Pauline. When his silence leaves Pauline heartbroken, Elisabeth begins writing to her as Neuville, describing the heroic deeds and adventures he supposedly experiences at the front. Her invented correspondence becomes harder to control when Neuville deserts the army and unexpectedly returns to the Beaugrand household, forcing Elisabeth to deal with the image of the hero she created.
