In London on the eve of World War II, Guinevere Pettigrew loses yet another position as a governess and is left without work. Through an error at an employment agency, she arrives at the home of Delysia LaFosse, an American jazz singer trying to build a career in Britain, and is taken on as her personal secretary. Delysia’s complicated love life soon draws Guinevere into a conflict between romantic choices and the demands of fame.
