High and Low (1963)

Kingo Gondo, a powerful executive at a Yokohama shoe company, is preparing to secure control of the business when a kidnapper demands a large ransom. The criminal has taken Gondo’s chauffeur’s son by mistake, but still expects payment as if the boy were Gondo’s own child. Giving up the money would cost Gondo his position and the future he has worked toward, while refusing could leave the child in danger, so Chief Detective Tokura begins investigating the case as Gondo weighs his decision.
