Freedom Writers
Young English teacher Erin Gruwell begins working at a high school in Long Beach, where many of her students face violence, gang divisions and limited prospects beyond the classroom. Because the teenagers distrust one another and resist school, Erin looks for a different way to reach them. She encourages them to keep personal diaries and introduces lessons about the Holocaust, helping the class confront prejudice while finding a shared way to tell their own stories.
