In 1920s Chicago, Roxie Hart, a chorus singer who dreams of becoming a vaudeville star, is arrested after killing the man who was leaving her. In prison, she meets Velma Kelly, an established performer accused of murdering her husband and sister. Facing the gallows, the two women compete for public attention while relying on lawyer Billy Flynn, whose ability to turn crime into headlines may decide whether either of them escapes execution.
