In a near-future society, technology records people’s experiences and leaves almost no room for privacy, making serious crime rare. Detective Sal Frieland investigates a series of unsolved murders and finds a woman who exists outside the system: she has no identity, history or trace in its records. Known only as The Girl, she may be connected to a new kind of crime, so Sal must uncover how she bypassed the surveillance network before the investigation puts him in danger.
