When Marnie Was There
Twelve-year-old Anna Sasaki leaves Sapporo to spend the summer in a small Hokkaido town, where the change of surroundings may help with her asthma. While exploring the marsh near an abandoned mansion, she meets Marnie, a girl who seems to live there. Anna and Marnie quickly become close friends, but their meetings and Marnie’s connection to the mansion raise questions Anna cannot ignore. As she tries to understand who Marnie is, Anna begins to confront the loneliness that has kept her apart from others.
