Teenager Mai feels isolated after her father leaves the family while her mother becomes absorbed in new technology. During a visit to an exhibition of the latest scientific inventions, Mai accidentally helps Project 77, a top-secret robot, escape from a laboratory. Their new friendship draws them into a dangerous adventure against bullies, hostile robots and a man with his own plan for the machines.
