Richard Cypher is a woodsman whose life changes when he learns that he was born to become a guardian for oppressed people. A mysterious woman, Kahlan Amnell, and the wise wizard Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander help him understand his role as the threat from the ruthless tyrant Darken Rahl grows. Richard must use his newly revealed place in an ancient prophecy to prevent Rahl from unleashing an ancient evil and enslaving the world.
