In August 1939, eight strangers arrive on Soldier Island, off the Devon coast, after receiving invitations from people they believe they know. The guests settle into a house run by the Rogers family, but the hosts, Mr. and Mrs. U.N. Owen, are nowhere to be found. As worsening weather cuts the island off from the mainland, Vera Claythorne and the others hear accusations that connect them to past deaths. Soon, the guests begin dying one by one in a pattern linked to a nursery rhyme displayed throughout the house.
