Struggling businessman Sam Harper returns to Los Angeles for the funeral of his estranged father, a record producer, and learns that the man left him an unusual task. To receive his inheritance, Sam must give $150,000 to Frankie Davis, a 30-year-old alcoholic he has never met—and who turns out to be his sister. Instead of telling Frankie the truth, he enters her life and becomes involved with her troubled 12-year-old son.
