Art dealer Charlie Mortdecai is struggling with debt when a stolen painting draws him into an international search. Rumors claim that the artwork contains a code leading to a hidden cache of Nazi gold, making it valuable to more than just collectors. As Charlie pursues it, he must deal with Russian adversaries, British intelligence and the complications caused by his wife Johanna, while Inspector Alistair Martland follows the case.
