Liberty Heights
In 1950s suburban Baltimore, high-school senior Ben Kurtzman grows up in a Jewish family while trying to decide what kind of future he wants. His feelings for Sylvia, a Black classmate, bring racism and antisemitism into the lives of both teenagers and create tensions around their relationship. Ben’s older brother Van faces a different transition at college, where he becomes interested in a mysterious woman, while their father works to keep his burlesque business running.
