Le Trou (1960)
In 1947, young prisoner Claude Gaspard is transferred to a different cell at Paris’s Santé Prison during renovation work. His new cellmates—Geo Cassine, Roland Darban, Manu Borelli and Vossellin—have been secretly preparing to escape by breaking through the concrete floor. They eventually let Claude in on the plan, and the five men begin widening the opening with makeshift tools before trying to reach the prison’s sewer system.
