Dancer in the Dark

Czech immigrant Selma Jezkova works in a small-town factory while her eyesight steadily deteriorates. Her young son has inherited the same condition, and without an expensive operation he is expected to lose his vision as well. Selma quietly saves every possible coin for his treatment, but her worsening sight and financial hardship make that goal increasingly difficult. To endure the pressure, she turns the sounds of everyday life into musical scenes in her imagination.
