City of Ember

Lina Mayfleet lives in Ember, an underground city whose lamps and aging generator are beginning to fail. When she discovers a sealed box containing instructions left by the city’s builders, Lina and her friend Doon Harrow try to decipher the message and find a way out. Their search is complicated by the mayor’s refusal to treat the failing power system as a serious problem, as well as distrust, dangerous traps and police pursuit.
