Awakenings
In 1969, research physician Malcolm Sayer begins working at a hospital where patients have spent years in a catatonic state caused by a rare illness. Believing an experimental drug may help them, he decides to test it on Leonard Lowe, one of the unresponsive patients. Leonard’s sudden return to consciousness gives Sayer a chance to help others, but the treatment also brings unexpected difficulties that neither doctor nor patient can ignore.
