A Futile and Stupid Gesture

Doug Kenney, one of the co-founders of National Lampoon, rises through the comedy world of the 1970s alongside Henry Beard. As the magazine and its wider comedy enterprise grow, Kenney faces the contrast between major success and personal failure while trying to shape a new kind of popular humor. The film follows his role in building that comedy empire and the pressures that come with it.
