NERV comes under attack when SEELE launches an operation to destroy the Evangelions and stop Gendo Ikari from carrying out his plans for the Human Instrumentality Project. Asuka Langley Soryu remains in a hospital ward and cannot pilot, leaving the organization with few options as the assault intensifies. Shinji Ikari is pushed to the limits while trying to understand himself and determine what will happen to humanity.
